A trading-card and games shop in the North East
The shop runs regular events, clubs and tournaments alongside the shop itself. It needed a website where customers could see what's on and book a place, and a simple way for staff to manage it all.
What I did
- A website showing upcoming events, clubs and tournaments
- Online booking, with checks that stop spam and duplicate bookings
- Automatic emails when someone books, and when an event is cancelled or moved
- A staff dashboard for managing sessions and sign-ups, with a record of every change
- Posting to the shop's Facebook page from the same dashboard
- A security review and a written handover guide, so anyone could look after the site in future
What it means day to day
Customers book in a few clicks and get a confirmation straight away. Staff manage every event from one place, and the written guide means the shop doesn't depend on one person to keep the site running.
How a booking goes through
Step 1: Customer books
On the website, from any device
Step 2: Places checked
Capacity and duplicates checked and the place taken in one step, so two people can't grab the last place
Step 3: Booking saved
Stored securely; the website itself can't read it back
Step 4: Confirmation sent
An email goes out automatically, and again if the event moves
Step 5: Dashboard updated
Staff see the booking straight away

An online tutoring business
The business offers online English tutoring for secondary-school students. Its tutors needed one place to manage their students, keep a proper record of every lesson, and turn each month's lessons into invoices without typing anything twice.
What I did
- A sign-in-only web app for tutors, with a dashboard showing upcoming lessons, lessons not yet invoiced and payments outstanding
- A record of every lesson: what was covered, its focus area, and notes such as homework set, parent feedback and things to revisit
- A full lesson history for each student, and a breakdown of time spent by focus area
- Monthly invoices for one student or all of them at once, filled into the tutor's own Word layout and ready as Word or PDF
- Invoice tracking from draft to paid, including when and how each payment arrived, and a running tax estimate for the UK tax year
- Records kept private in the database itself, so each tutor only ever sees their own students
What it means day to day
Tutors log each lesson as it happens, so every student has a history to look back on before the next one. At the end of the month the invoices come straight from that record, and the tax estimate keeps the year-end bill from being a surprise.
From lessons to invoices
Step 1: Lessons logged
Each lesson recorded as it happens
Step 2: Month chosen
One click for every student that month
Step 3: Invoices filled in
Your own Word layout, one invoice per family
Step 4: Word and PDF ready
Download, send, and mark as paid
Running tax estimate
Updated as income is logged, for the UK tax year, so there are no surprises when the tax bill arrives.
